Harley Benton Fishman Fluence Pickups

Push Pull Pots Installation

About the Job

My client approached me to install fishman fluence pickups and push pull pots.

All hardware and diagrams were provided by my client.

The Problem

We had to install a 9-volt battery to power up the fishman fluence pickups, a coil tap on the bridge pickup and a TRS jack.

Everything was straight forward until we plugged in the guitar.

Initial Inspection

Everything was wired correctly according to the diagram provided.

When I was wiring the 3-way switch, I didnt feel comfortable that the wiring was correct but continued as to plan.

Rewiring and installation

We began by installing the new fishman fluence pickups and soldering a purple wire to the coil tap on the bridge pickup.

We then turned to the installation of the 9-volt battery which had to be mounted securely.

Then we started on the potentiometers wiring them in with the 22uF capacitor on the tone pot.

We then lowered the wired pots into the cavity and attached all the wiring to the 9v battery, TRS jack and 3 way switch.

Once job was complete we added a 9-volt battery and plugged the guitar in and originally got sound but then it died.

We found that we were getting sound when the 3 way switch was in a specific position (in no mans land between the middle and bridge).

I turned to the 3 way switch which didnt look right in the first place but wired as instructed.

After some research and testing I figured out that a few solder points were incorrect on the diagram and rewired it a different way.

Once this was done it all worked fine.

The two diagrams in the pictures show the correct wiring. The first picture is the original wiring and the second one is what I corrected it to.
