Terms & Conditions

Important – Collection & Storage

Customers are requested to collect completed instruments within 48 hours of being notified that the work has been completed.

If an instrument has not been collected within 7 days of notification, a storage charge of £5 per day may be applied. Storage charges are capped at £100 per instrument.

If you have a genuine reason why you cannot collect your instrument, please contact Loughton Guitar Repairs as soon as possible so that an alternative arrangement can be agreed.

1. Acceptance of Instruments

When leaving an instrument with Loughton Guitar Repairs, the customer agrees to provide accurate information about the instrument and the work required.

Customers should make us aware of significant existing damage, including cracks, scratches, dents, finish damage, electrical faults, previous repairs or other known problems.

Where appropriate, we may photograph or record the condition of the instrument when it is received.

2. Estimates and Quotations

Any estimate given before inspection is based on the information available at that time.

If additional problems are discovered that would significantly increase the agreed cost, the customer will be contacted before significant additional chargeable work is carried out.

3. Parts and Prepayment

Where parts required for a repair have a total cost of £30 or more, payment for those parts must be made in advance before they are ordered.

Special-order or custom parts may also require advance payment.

If additional parts are required during the repair, the customer will be contacted before they are ordered where they would result in an additional charge.

4. Repair Times

Any completion date or turnaround time is an estimate unless a specific completion date has been expressly agreed.

Repair times may be affected by parts availability, additional faults or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

5. Older, Modified or Previously Damaged Instruments

Older, vintage, heavily worn, previously repaired or modified instruments may contain faults or weaknesses that are not apparent during an initial inspection.

If additional problems become apparent, we will contact the customer where further work or additional expenditure is required.

6. Existing Damage

Loughton Guitar Repairs is not responsible for damage, faults or defects that were already present when the instrument was received, or for problems arising solely from an existing defect that could not reasonably have been identified beforehand.

This does not exclude responsibility for damage caused by a failure to exercise reasonable care and skill.

7. Customer-Supplied Parts

Customers may, by prior agreement, supply their own replacement parts.

We cannot guarantee the quality, suitability or compatibility of customer-supplied parts.

If a supplied component is unsuitable, defective or incompatible, reasonable additional labour charges may apply for work already undertaken or for removing or refitting components.

8. Completion and Collection

The customer will be contacted when their instrument is ready for collection.

Customers are requested to collect completed instruments within 48 hours of notification.

Notification may be made using the contact details supplied by the customer, including telephone, text message, WhatsApp or email.

9. Storage Charges

If an instrument has not been collected within 7 days of notification that the work has been completed, a storage charge of £5 per day may be applied.

The total storage charge is capped at £100 per instrument.

Applicable repair charges, parts costs and storage charges are normally payable before release of the instrument.

10. Difficulty Collecting

If genuine circumstances prevent collection within the normal period, please contact Loughton Guitar Repairs as soon as possible.

We will endeavour to agree a reasonable alternative collection or storage arrangement.

11. Uncollected Instruments

If an instrument remains uncollected for an extended period despite reasonable attempts to contact the customer, Loughton Guitar Repairs may take steps permitted by law in relation to the uncollected instrument.

This may ultimately include sale to recover legitimate outstanding repair, parts and storage costs, but the instrument does not automatically become the property of Loughton Guitar Repairs simply because it has not been collected.

Any required notices and procedures will be followed before an uncollected instrument is sold or otherwise disposed of.

12. Payment

Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due when the repair or service has been completed and before collection.

Parts requiring advance payment must be paid for before they are ordered.

13. Cancellation of Work

If a customer asks us to stop work after a repair has begun, reasonable charges may be made for work already completed and for parts already ordered specifically for the instrument.

14. Set-ups and Customer Preferences

Guitar set-ups involve personal preferences, including string action, neck relief, pickup height and playing feel.

Customers should tell us about any particular requirements before work is carried out.

15. Strings and Consumables

Strings, batteries and other consumable components naturally wear through normal use.

Unless a fault results from the repair work itself, normal wear to consumable items after collection is not considered a defect in the repair.

16. Testing Following Repair

Where appropriate, an instrument may be played, connected to an amplifier or other suitable equipment, tuned and tested as reasonably necessary to diagnose faults and verify completed work.

17. Collection and Inspection

Customers are encouraged to inspect their instrument on collection and to raise any concerns as soon as reasonably possible.

If a problem appears to relate to work carried out by Loughton Guitar Repairs, please contact us so that we have an opportunity to inspect the instrument and address the matter appropriately.

Nothing in this term restricts your statutory rights.

18. Our Responsibility

Repair and servicing work will be performed with reasonable care and skill.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to exclude or restrict your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable consumer law.

19. Contact Details

Customers are responsible for providing accurate contact information and should notify us if their telephone number or email address changes while an instrument is in our possession.

20. Agreement to These Terms

Customers should be given the opportunity to read these Terms & Conditions before leaving an instrument for repair.

By instructing Loughton Guitar Repairs to carry out work, the customer confirms that they have had the opportunity to read these terms and agrees to the applicable repair, payment, collection and storage arrangements.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory rights.
